Musician, golfer, television voice, veteran, father and husband Don Cherry passed away this past Spring at the healthy age of 94. Don’s song Band of Gold reached top 10 when he was in his 20’s. He then kept up his musical career throughout his lifetime.
He had many children and step-children throughout his four marriages. One being his step-daughter Neneh Cherry who he raised since infancy. Neneh was raised by Don and grew up singing around the family piano. In 1989 she reached top 3 in the UK album charts. Neneh’s half brother is a jazz musician another being a record producer along with her half sister. Neneh’s step sister is a violinist. Neneh still performs in present day. One can only hope that Don Cherry passed away knowing the huge impact he has on his family as a musician.
You can say as a dancer I’ve had a very musical childhood following into my adulthood. Finding myself here at Rowan University in this class with this assignment feels super random, but is it? Music has become so much of my likelihood.
