Josh White’s “Evil Hearted Man”

The track now playing is “Evil Hearted Man” by Josh White and his Guitar.

This song was written and recorded during the peak of White’s career in the 1940’s.

White had been performing and recording music since he was a boy, and went by various names, and performed various genres. Though, he was most known for his blues tracks, such as this one.

White was able to gain a massive audience at a time of segregation in America. He was even close with the Roosevelts.

White was considered a pioneer for his success with people of all races and was one of the first black artists to perform on Broadway and feature in Hollywood films.

White used his position as an opportunity to discuss civil rights. He was known as an activist, and was considered the “King of Political Singers,” among many titles as well as “King of Blues.”
