Big Iron by Marty Robbins is nothing but the best in terms of country music that the 1960’s has to offer. Sporting an iconic guitar riff and a compelling storyline that embodies one of the most iconic rivalries in the world of old music, it truly marks the golden era of the country music genre.
The song was released in September 1959 as the intro track to the album Gunfighter Ballads and Trail Songs. Despite its immense popularity in the 1960’s, the song only continued to live on as it became a part of the soundtrack to the 2010 roleplaying game Fallout: New Vegas, where it garnered millions of views on streaming platforms.
Although Robbins passed away in 1982 at the age of 57, his music would live on and remain relevant today. As he enters heaven with a Big Iron on his hip, one can only admire his raw talent and incredible influence.
