“What Is Thing Called Love” was recorded by Frank Luther in 1930. Frank Luther was a well known American country music singer, dance band vocalist, playwright, songwriter and pianist during this time period. Born Francis Luther Crow in 1899, Frank was always involved with music. He began to study piano at the age of 6, and began vocal instruction at 13. Years later he began touring with different quartets and other choirs.
In 1920, he married fellow musician Zora Layman. The couple then made their way to the Big Apple, hoping to pursue huge musical careers. It was there when he met the DeReske Singers, who told him that his surname Crow was “un-musical”. He dropped that name and went as Frank Luther from that day forward.
