“Somewhere Over The Rainbow” is a song from the 1939 classic film, The Wizard of Oz. It was composed and written by Harold Arlen and Yip Harburg. Performed by Judy Garland, “Somewhere Over The Rainbow” has remained a timeless piece of artistry for almost eighty years. Since its debut, the song has gained mass commercial success. It won the Academy Award for Best Original Song in 1940 where Judy Garland performed it for the audience. In later years, the Recording Industry Association of America chose it as the #1 song of the 20th century. Aside from the song’s obvious success, it was tragically almost cut from the movie. MGM studio chief, Louis B. Mayer, believed it “slowed up the film”. Thankfully it remained, warming the hearts of millions for years to come.
