Exploring the history of the groove

“Girls” by the The Moments and The Whatnauts

The Moments had huge success throughout the late 1960’s until the late 1980’s. This R&B Group consisted of three members (Ray,Goodman, and Brown.) In 1974 the trio teamed up with “The Whatnauts” to release the smash hit “Girls”.The Moments and The Whatnauts were also label mates at the time. The groups displayed a different sound than they were used to with this electric funk-like track. Although the lyrics are simple, they reach a certain “flirty” level without going over the top. “Girls” lasted five weeks in the U.S. top 10 and one week in the U.K. top 10. Many artists have sampled this classic hit such of as Wale, New Kids on the block, and Ultimate Force.
